The Rabbi

Rabbi Leonard Cohen

Rabbi Leonard Cohen joined Kehilat Shalom Calgary in 2014, and assumed the role of its rabbi upon his ordination from Mesifta Adas Wolkowisk in 2016.  In his role, Rabbi Leonard provides ritual leadership, spiritual guidance, prayer service (Tefilah) leadership, program development, education, outreach and pastoral counselling for the Kehilat Shalom congregation.  His experience as rabbi builds upon twenty years of clergy and management experience in Montreal and Calgary.
 
Prior to joining Kehilat Shalom, Rabbi Leonard served from 2010-2014 as Ritual/Program Director at Beth Tzedec Congregation in Calgary.  Originally from Montreal, he previously served as the congregational leader of the South Shore Jewish Community in Montreal, as well as Ba’al Koreh and youth leader of Congregation Beth-El.   He has taught classes in a wide range of subjects at Calgary Jewish Academy and at Bialik and Herzliah High Schools in Montreal.  Rabbi Leonard found his calling as Jewish clergy following a prior career as a management professional in Montreal.  He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from McGill University, as well as a B.A. in Communication Studies from Concordia University.
