Yartzeit and Kaddish

A yahrzeit, literally, Time of Year, in Yiddish, marks the annual date of the passing of a family member or loved one according to the Hebrew calendar. Traditionally, people honour the Yahrzeit date by lighting a 24-hour remembrance candle, and by reciting Kaddish either on the preceding Shabbat or on the day of the Yahrzeit.

It is also customary on this date to make Tzedakah donations, and to participate in Torah/Jewish study.

Some of the information below is found on the Chabad website, www.chabad.org.

Yahrzeit Project/Database

Thanks to the dedicated work of volunteers Alex Georgescu and David Craimer, Kehilat Shalom will soon begin providing notification of Yahrzeit remembrances.
We will post the link when we are ready to take it online.
